My son approached me about a month before his 12th birthday and was in tears. He said, “Mom, I want to organize a fundraiser instead of having my birthday this year. Too many people don’t know about colon cancer just like Grandma.”
Parts of me inside cried for our loss of his Grandma / my Mom and a bigger part of me was so proud of him for being so thoughtful and compassionate. My immediate answer was, “Yes!”. I knew we didn’t have a lot of time so we got going on putting some ideas together to raise money and awareness for the Colon Cancer Association of Canada.
We ran through a bunch of ideas and a lot weren’t feasible with our time constraint. Once I got the okay from Centre de la Nature in Laval to have the fundraiser there we got moving.
I went through my network and started getting some prizes to raffle off and the response I got from everyone around me was remarkable. We had all of the following prizes: 2 Makeup Session Certificates, Prime Time Clothing, Zenith media Hosting Package, Mega Brands playsets, Anzie Jewelry bracelets, Club Soda tickets, Remote Controlled Pirelli Car, Montreal Burlesque Festival tickets, Miss Sugarpuss Burlesque lesson and much more!
94.7Hits FM came out to spend the day with us and give us some great music and Airbounce Amusements set up some great bouncy castles for the kids!
I was incredibly touched by the involvement of the car community. So Clean. is a weekly meet and car organization and they brought out a bunch of there cars and people and not only that they gave all the proceeds of their convoy the following day to us to give to the cause! Also Auto Acethetics were amazing too! They brought out their rides and BBQ crew and served us all up some great food throughout the day as well as donating profits to the cause.
Due to bad weather and unforeseen circumstances we didn’t have the biggest turnout we expected BUT the compassion and care we saw from everyone really touched our hearts and my son Christian was so incredible proud to see his idea come to fruition! We did raise $1,000+ for the Colon Cancer Association of Canada!
